About

Hi my name is Seko i was born in Broome, Western Australia, where i am of Aboriginal and Asian descent.
I am part of both the Bardi ‘Saltwater’ people from the Kimberley region and a descendant of the Japanese and Chinese people who came to work in the pearling industry at Broome in the early 1900’s.
My artistic ability stems from having had close contact at an early age with the elders of Lombadina mission (Djarindjin), where i spent time living the culture of my people.
Through my art i am expressing my Aboriginality and giving recognition to my people and their land, to show how nique and diverse their culture and spiritual beliefs are.

The Bardi dancers accepted an extraordinary invitation to be the first Aboriginal group ever to perform at England’s most famous sacred site Stonehenge.
The Bardi people are from the Dampier Peninsula situated around 200 kilometres north-east of Broome, Western Australia.
They are coastal people who have looked to the land, open waters, tidal flats and mangrove creeks for thousands of years for food, law and traditions.
Even to this day Bardi people continue to practice their culture and to live this way of life.
